Becca Bracy Knight

Becca Bracy Knight is executive director of The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. In this role, she is responsible for the strategic development of The Broad Center and its core programs. Previously, Bracy Knight was director of The Broad Foundation, responsible for managing numerous grants and two of the foundation’s flagship initiatives: The Broad Prize for Urban Education and The Broad Superintendents Academy. Earlier in her career, she was regional director of K-12 programs for Kaplan Learning Services, family services director for the Salvation Army’s South Central Los Angeles Youth Project and a Healthy Start coordinator in San Francisco. Bracy Knight also worked in Oakland on major school improvement initiatives through Partners in School Innovation. She also has held leadership positions in the AmeriCorps National Service Program and its precursor, the Summer of Service. Bracy Knight was a member of the 2008 cohort of the Aspen Institute-NewSchools Entrepreneurial Leaders for Public Education fellowship. She currently serves as chair of the Advisory Council for the Center for Park Management, dedicated to promoting and enhancing the management capacity within the National Park Service. Bracy Knight holds a bachelor’s degree in science, technology and society from Stanford University.

Victoria Chong Der

Victoria Chong Der is assistant director of the ActivateEd Exchange. In this role, Der focuses on the operational and logistical framework for the development and implementation of an online portal for sharing best practices and networking that is used by participants and alumni of The Broad Center, Education Pioneers and Harvard’s Strategic Data Project. She also served as a project associate for The Broad Residency in Urban Education. Previously, Der was program coordinator at the Greater Homewood Community Corporation, AmeriCorps VISTA coordinator at the Jones Fall Watershed Association and an Oberlin Shansi fellow. Der holds a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Oberlin College and a master’s degree in intercultural service, leadership and management from the School for International Training.

Daisy Sayre Garcia serves as an associate director on The Broad Center's network services team. In this role, she is responsible for all aspects of the ActivateEd Exchange technology, including the information technology infrastructure. Garcia most recently served in product and project management roles at savings.com. Previously, she worked in project management and as a quality assurance engineer at the Rubicon Project and as a senior quality assurance engineer at Oracle, Inc. Garcia holds a bachelor of science degree in information systems with a business emphasis from California State University, Northridge.

Stephanie Germeraad is senior director, communications for The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. In this role, she is responsible for The Broad Center’s internal and external communications activities. She most recently served as director of communications for The Education Trust in Washington, D.C., where she was the chief messaging and communications strategist on K-12 and higher education policy issues. She also developed grassroots advocacy campaigns for the organization and many of its coalitions, oversaw all media relations and trained its spokespeople. Prior to this, Germeraad was a public affairs specialist at the U.S. Department of Education and served as director of media and public affairs for the Milken Family Foundation and its K-12 education programs. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.

Jasmine Pachnanda is senior director for headquarters and strategic initiatives for The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. In this role, she is responsible for managing internal operations as well as organization-wide strategic initiatives. Prior to joining The Broad Center, she spent four years at Boston Consulting Group, where she oversaw a number of education initiatives, including performance management for the Los Angeles Unified School District and the development of a strategic education plan for the country of Qatar. Previously, she was an intern in former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's Office of Education, Youth and Families, a consultant at the Center for Applied Research, a senior economic consultant at Fulcrum Financial Inquiry and an economic consultant at Arthur Andersen. Pachnanda holds a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Laura Reed is an administrative associate on the Headquarters & Strategic Initiatives team. Prior to this role, Laura was an editorial assistant at the Charlotte Gusay Literary Agency in Los Angeles.  She has also worked as a clinic assistant at Beach Kids Therapy Center, a language assistant at Madrid's AIDE Abroad, and a screenwriting assistant at ABC Studios.  Laura earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles and has since completed an intensive program in digital journalism at New York University.

Ryan Schowalter

Ryan Schowalter is assistant director of data and analysis. In this role, he supports systems and processes for data analysis, evaluation and research activities across all teams of The Broad Center. Most recently, Schowalter worked as an evaluation manager for City Year Los Angeles, where he helped grow the organization’s capacity for data collection and analysis. Prior to City Year, Schowalter was a research assistant in the office of Wisconsin state superintendent Tony Evers, a legislative intern for U.S. Senator Russell D. Feingold and an instructor for Revolution Prep. Schowalter holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Southern California and a master’s degree in public affairs from the La Follette School at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Joseph Ucuzoglu

Joseph Ucuzoglu is deputy director, information systems for The Broad Center for the Management of Schools Systems. In this role, Ucuzoglu develops, implements and manages technology and knowledge management strategies for the Center and its programs. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Ucuzoglu was an information technology manager, web producer, web developer and computer consultant for StreetWise, NBC/Universal and Disney's Internet Group. Additionally, he spent more than three years as director of information services at the Frontier School, an online graduate university specializing in advanced practice nursing degrees. Ucuzoglu holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from California State University, Fullerton and is pursuing a master's degree in information technology.

Phuong Vuong is the deputy director of talent and operations. Phuong is responsible for designing and managing systems, tools and programming to support Broad Center staff. Phuong most recently served as a director at Bebe Stores, Inc., where she oversaw all elements of merchandising, marketing, planning and operations for the company's international division. Her previous experience included serving as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group,  working in the M.B.A. merchandising program at Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy and as a senior merchant and merchandise planner for Gap Inc., where she helped launch Banana Republic in Japan. Phuong has a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Niko Everett is a senior director of The Broad Academy. In this role, she manages the Academy's program team. Before joining The Broad Center, Everett served as president of Career College of California, an accredited institution that seeks to enable graduates of their programs to secure employment in careers with good long-term growth prospects by providing high-quality job-skills training, life-skills workshops and intensive, individualized placement assistance. Earlier in her career, she founded and led Girls for Change, a non-profit organization that empowers girls to create social change as a vehicle for self-efficacy. She has also served as an entrepreneur in residence at CSE Capital focusing on education, solar and green investments; an account manager with Porter Novelli; and a program manager with the Girl Scouts of Northern California and the Cross Cultural Community Services Center. Everett holds a bachelor’s degree in art history and women’s studies from Tufts University and completed the non-profit management executive education program at Harvard Business School.

Laura Furlong

Laura Furlong is assistant director for The Broad Academy. In this role, she manages projects key to supporting the Academy program. She also manages communication with Academy Fellows and the event planning and logistics of the Academy’s annual events. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Furlong was school operations coordinator at KIPP Empower Academy. She has also been a program director at City Year Los Angeles and editor-in-chief of Let’s Go Publications. Furlong has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Harvard University.

Christina Heitz is managing director of The Broad Academy. She is responsible for all aspects of the program including recruitment, selection, session design and training and professional development. Previously, Heitz worked on a national campaign to raise public awareness about the need for improvement in K-12 public education with The Broad Foundation. She also has served in leadership roles at AT&T, Northpoint Communications and SBC Communications. She started her career as a brand manager with Ralston Purina. Heitz holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Talia Kolasinski is deputy director for The Broad Academy. In this role, she is responsible for a portfolio of special projects to advance the mission of the Academy program. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Kolasinski served as associate director of public outreach for the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education where she managed the organization’s internal and external communications and oversaw public relations. She previously served as a communications officer in the national office of the Starlight Children’s Foundation and as a manager of special events for the organization’s New England region. Kolasinski graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and she holds an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.

Carla McLoughlin is a deputy director for The Broad Academy. In this role, McLoughlin is responsible for developing program sessions for Academy participants. Prior to joining The Broad Center, McLoughlin worked as an independent business and marketing consultant for clients such as Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Johnson & Johnson. Previously, she served as director of development at the Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television & Radio). McLoughlin spent nearly a decade working in consumer products marketing for The Walt Disney Company and eToys.com. She began her career as a public relations executive with Hill and Knowlton in New York. McLoughlin holds a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from Denison University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Marie Garcia Melli serves as associate director, personalized learning of The Broad Academy. In this role, Melli develops individualized learning tracks for Academy Fellows. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Melli was director of new site development for 50CAN: The 50-State Campaign for Achievement Now. She also served as national organizations liaison for The Education Trust, chief of staff for former Los Angeles school board member David Tokofsky and as AmeriCorps VISTA/outreach coordinator at Corporation for National and Community Service. Melli earned bachelor's degrees in political science and international relations from the University of Southern California.

Marc Terry is senior director, recruitment and selection of The Broad Academy. In this role, Terry leads the development, analysis, implementation and continuous improvement of recruitment and selection strategies for the Academy's Fellows. Prior to joining the Academy, Terry served as manager of talent acquisition for Electronic Arts, where he handled all recruitment activities for the company’s Los Angeles campus. He previously worked for seven years in various recruitment positions for The Walt Disney Company, including senior recruiter for Disney Mobile and recruitment lead for Disney Consumer Products. Terry holds bachelor’s degrees in marketing and English literature from Indiana University.

Yinnie most recently worked for The Brookings Institution as assistant director of finance for the global economy and development program. Previously, she was assistant director of budget for the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, assistant director of advertising at Sherry Lehmann Wines and Spirits and a financial analyst at Morgan Stanley. Tse has a bachelor’s degree in economics and philosophy from Wellesley College.

Williams previously was interim associate director of admissions at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, managing editor at the National Baptist Voice, senior business planner at Walt Disney Internet Group and a financial analyst at Kline Hawkes & Company as well as Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Booker worked in the public sector, first as founder and director of A+ Services, a tutorial company operating within the Los Angeles Unified School District, and then as director of education for Star Inc., a provider of after-school enrichment, curriculum development and supplemental education services. Booker holds bachelor’s degrees in economics and psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Sarah Chandler is deputy director of The Broad Residency in Urban Education. In this role, Chandler is responsible for a portfolio of special projects to advance the mission of the Residency program. Previously, Chandler was a consultant with the Boston Consulting Group. While in business school, she served as an Education Pioneers fellow and developed new hiring and recruitment strategies for school principals. She also has been a sales manager in the wine and beverage industry for Korbel and Young’s Market Company. Chandler holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Xochitl Flores

In this role, Flores is responsible for managing and supporting all logistical and operational aspects of the Residency’s professional development sessions. Before joining The Broad Center, she served as a policy and compliance intern with the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities at the U.S. Department of Commerce and as a graduate teaching associate at San Francisco State University. Previously, she has been an Education Pioneers fellow with the California Charter Schools Association, a community organizer with the Los Angeles County Children’s Planning Council and a youth program coordinator and mentor for InSite Development. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Fried served as school services senior manager for Green Dot Public Schools where he oversaw operations for 18 schools. Previously, he was an Education Pioneer fellow with the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools and a program analyst for The Broad Foundation. Fried holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Jamiah Harris is associate director of recruitment and selection for The Broad Residency in Urban Education. Before joining The Broad Center, Harris was a graduate consultant for the BrazilFoundation in Rio de Janeiro. He has also worked as an operations manager for the Head Start National Center on Cultural and Linguistic Responsiveness, manager/director for the Associação dos Amigos da Casa do Caminho and as a compliance and trading specialist for optionsXpress. Harris holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Chicago and an M.P.A. from Columbia University with specializations in social policy and Latin America.

Erin Keller is deputy director of The Broad Residency in Urban Education. In this role, Keller works on the development and execution of national and regional marketing and recruitment strategies, as well as the Residency's rigorous selection process. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Keller served as associate director, strategic support for LA’s Promise. She also was service director at City Year Los Angeles and a classroom teacher and AVID Coordinator at Narbonne High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Keller holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of Southern California and an M.B.A. from the USC Marshall School of Business.

Eleisha Nelson

Eleisha Nelson is deputy director of The Broad Residency in Urban Education. In this role, she is responsible for the design and execution of curricula for the Residency's professional development sessions. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Nelson worked for Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, where she served as assistant director of curriculum-community programs, a curriculum writer, professional developer, classroom teacher and instructional coach. In addition, Nelson has been a consultant for Educational Testing Service as an item writer for the Texas state reading assessment and worked with Greenwood/Heinemann to provide feedback on K-12 education manuscripts and book proposals submitted for publication. Nelson holds bachelor degrees in English and Spanish from Rice University and a master's of education in curriculum and instruction from the University of Houston.

Hoa Truong is director of The Broad Residency in Urban Education. In this role, he focuses on leadership development, role progression, supervisor relationships and all aspects of the Resident experience that relate directly to their work in our partner organizations. Previously, Truong was the chief operating officer for Camino Nuevo Charter Academy in Los Angeles. Prior to that, he served as director of knowledge management and then vice president of operations at Green Dot Public Schools. Before transitioning into the education sector, he worked as a strategic marketing manager for Audio Visual Services Corporation and as a senior consultant at Arthur Andersen. Truong holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of California, Berkeley, an M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and is a graduate of The Broad Residency.

Archana Patel

Archana Patel is deputy director for The Broad Center’s alumni and network services team. In this role, she focuses on events and activities to accelerate improvements in network members’ own systems while impacting the national landscape. Archana most recently served as the school leader at KIPP Academy of Opportunity in Los Angeles. While in graduate school she was associate director of talent at KIPP LA, a research assistant at the USC Center on Educational Governance and a human capital summer associate at Deloitte. Previously, she served as the co-founder and project manager of what became Teach For India and as a fifth-grade teacher in Newark and a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher in the Bronx as a Teach For America corps member. Archana has a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Boston College, a master’s degree in teaching from Fordham University and a master’s of public policy from the University of Southern California.

Veronica Limcaco is an operations associate for The Broad Center for the Management of School Systems. In this role, she supports the organization's alumni and network services efforts. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Limcaco worked for the law offices of George Nowell and Valle Makoff, LLP in San Francisco where she served as a legal administrative assistant. Limcaco has interned for the San Francisco Democratic Party, California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris and for the National Council for Adoption. She also served as a program assistant for the Department of Advocacy Programs with the University of San Francisco School of Law and as a teaching assistant in a rural school in the Philippines as a youth leader fellow by the Ayala Foundation USA. Limcaco holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from the University of San Francisco.

Michael Montoya

Michael Montoya is senior director for The Broad Center’s alumni and network services team. In this role, Montoya is responsible for supporting participants and graduates of both The Broad Residency and The Broad Academy programs. Previously, he was deputy director of the Residency’s program team, supporting all aspects of program management, including the application, screening and evaluation process for partner organizations. Prior to joining The Broad Center, Montoya served as program officer for education and youth development programs for the Y & H Soda Foundation and spent four years at Stanford University's John W. Gardner Center as a policy and program specialist. Montoya also worked as undergraduate admissions counselor at the University of Chicago, director of science education outreach at the University of California, San Diego, director of youth education and formation at the Diocese of Colorado Springs and as education coordinator and admissions officer at Up With People. Montoya holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Colorado College and a master's degree in social science from the University of Chicago. He is a member of the inaugural class of the Pahara Institute's NextGen Leaders.

Tom most recently served as manager, grassroots activation, national development for Teach For America. He previously was an education innovation specialist in the Office of University Initiatives at Arizona State University, founded and served as chief operating officer of online software company GoodCloud, was managing director for On Site Volunteer Services and taught eighth-grade math in Phoenix as a TFA corps member. Tom has a bachelor’s degree in American studies from Cornell University and an M.B.A. from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

She serves as the lead for engagement strategies to reach the 400 members of The Broad Center's network to strengthen their connection to each other and deepen their impact. Previously, she was the team's operations manager. Before joining The Broad Center, Shrout served as recruitment coordinator for DreamWorks SKG and recruitment director and field organizer for a political fundraising organization in Boston. Shrout holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Occidental College.
