The Academy works with transformative leaders to drive dramatic gains in student achievement in large-city school districts, high-performing urban public charter school systems, state and federal education agencies and public turnaround systems.

The most important quality we seek in any candidate is a successful record of transformational leadership in extremely complex, challenging environments. The Academy seeks individuals with plans to grow the systems they currently lead as well as those who are on a career path to lead a large urban school system.

Individuals who qualify for the Academy include:

  • K-12 leaders with a proven history of student achievement results.

  • Superintendents of mid-size school systems with strong gains in student achievement.

  • Progressive leaders from state departments of education.

  • Groundbreaking leaders of successful public charter school systems and other innovative education organizations.

  • Civic-minded leaders outside K-12 who are passionate about public education.
