The Broad Academy is a highly selective, advanced development program for talented, innovative leaders from across the nation. The Academy works with these transformative leaders to drive dramatic gains in student achievement in large-city school districts, high-performing urban public charter school systems, state and federal education agencies and public turnaround systems. With the Academy’s support, participants emerge from the 18-month program ready to pioneer sustainable breakthrough initiatives that enable public school systems to thrive and succeed.

Following a rigorous application and review process, between 10 and 15 participants from within and outside K-12 education are selected for each cohort. The program includes Fellows with plans to grow the systems they currently lead as well as those who are on a career path to lead a large urban school system.

Speakers and Facilitators
Academy sessions feature a variety of speakers and facilitators, including current and former urban superintendents, leaders of other highly-regarded organizations and senior government officials.
The 18-month program includes five in-person sessions in various locations across the country. In between sessions, participants complete rigorous coursework, including robust preparatory activities tied to upcoming session topics and independent projects for a personalized learning plan.
